My wife and I are trying to fix up our house we recently inherited from her dad. He built the house close to 50 years ago, and other then the normal upkeep, he never really improved, or should I say, updated it.
My problem has been having contractors call me back when we make appointments with them.
It took me 3 different contractors to finally have 1 get back to us for new vinyl siding. A new kitchen is also in order, and the guy who contacted us never showed. I'm sitting home on a Saturday afternoon, which by the way was the warmest day we had in a week and would have been spent much better out riding the motorcycle, waiting for our 2 pm appointment and no one showed. Not even a call saying I'll be late/not there/died.
Concrete contractor comes to the house, measures the area to be done, says he'll call back with an estimate...............never heard from him again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe it's my breath?
I don't understand. I'm trying to give people money and no one even has the decency to call and let us know they won't be there!!!!!
Sad America, very sad.
Sad, very

Several years ago, I went thru this exact routine trying to get our back deck built. For every four that I called, MAYBE one showed up. Business must be good is all I can figure. We finally found a friend of a friend in the business and that's how I end up doing things now usually if I have to hire someone to do anything.
Good luck....and lucky Linda, a new KITCHEN!! ..wow..pictures ok?
Oh, baby. Do I ever feel your pain. We bought an old house 5 years ago. Had to have it rewired top to bottom and still don't have working outlets in the family room on the lower level. Toilet leaked from one bathroom down onto the head of whoever happened to be unlucky enough to be sitting on the john in the bathroom below. Doors wouldn't open all the way or close all the way. The list was endless and these contractors and handy guys were like little Kings or something. Would you believe I'm still waiting for a call from a guy who was here, took notes, showed me photos, and said he'd get back to me in two weeks? Ay yi yi! What a racket.
